Article from FOCUS Magazine – Summer 12 issue.
One of the eager participants of the Queen’s diamond jubilee river pageant is seasoned explorer and entrepreneur, Roger Davies.
Roger, from Cheam in Surrey, will be part of a crew which will row from Hammersmith to West India Docks, as part of the flotilla to celebrate the jubilee on 3rd June. Roger has also previously been a part of teams rowing both the length of the Thames, and from London to Paris.
However, this is not the only event which Roger will be contributing to in 2012. In September, he will be leading a group to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in aid of St Raphael’s Hospice. He is hoping to find 25 willing volunteers who will conquer the mountain to raise funds for the St Raphael’s, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary in this year.
Roger is no stranger to adventure, having previously climbed Kilimanjaro in 2009. He has also been part of a successful expedition to the North Pole, pulling a sledge over 350 miles in the process.
Roger’s passion for discovery and adventure is contagious and we hope that you will be inspired to join him to support a very worthy cause in St Raphael’s. The hospice needs to raise over 70% of its funds each year, which works out at approximately 3 million pounds. This money goes towards medical care and enables the best quality of life possible for those who are terminally ill.
